A general cooperation agreement between Luxembourg and Benin was signed on 19 December 2022. The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg opened an embassy in September 2023 and LuxDev has been represented through a country office since February of the same year.
In 2022, Luxembourg Cooperation, through delegated cooperation with Enabel and the Agence Française de Développement, began its first support programmes in Benin, in the agriculture and vocational training sectors.
Since 2023, in addition to the two delegated cooperation programmes, LuxDev has received various requests from the Beninese government. The key themes selected for Luxembourg's cooperation are vocational training, digital technology and inclusive finance. Within this framework, the following projects have been formulated and are currently being implemented for a period of three years (until the beginning of 2027): project BEN/003 (École des métiers du tourisme, de l’hôtellerie et de la restauration for a total amount of 17 MEUR), project BEN/005 (Inclusive and innovative finance, 10 MEUR), project BEN/006 (BeDigital, 8.5 MEUR), the first Luxembourg Cooperation project entirely dedicated to digital technology. Other projects are currently being formulated and/or validated.
