What is the “Business and Human Rights” National Pact?
The "Business and Human Rights" National Pact is a tool to support companies in implementing due diligence in their value chain. It consists of a voluntary commitment to implement the United Nations guiding principles on business and human rights. This pact enables signatory companies to prepare now for a future European directive on “Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence”.
The pact is part of the “Business and Human Rights” National Action Plan adopted by the Luxembourg government in December 2019. As a credible and reliable partner on the international stage, Luxembourg is determined to keep its promise to protect human rights against violations committed by third parties, including companies, on its territory and within its jurisdiction.
Six commitments for LuxDev
By subscribing to the pact, like the other signatory companies, our Agency undertakes to:
- raise awareness among its staff and stakeholders about the protection of human rights in the workplace;
- appoint a person responsible for human rights within the organisation;
- train relevant employees in business and human rights;
- develop governance tools to identify risks and prevent human rights violations;
- implement one or more means of redress to deal with reported cases of human rights violations;
- publish a standardised annual report on the measures implemented.
