The "Junior Technical Adviser" project is an initiation programme to development cooperation financed by the Luxembourg Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs and managed by LuxDev.

The project aims at introducing motivated young people, of Luxembourg nationality and/or resident, to development cooperation by allowing them, after having received a theoretical training, to carry out a long-term practical internship in the framework of a development cooperation project implemented by LuxDev.

The objectives of the project are to :

  • to raise awareness among young people (and through them, part of the Luxembourg population) on the theme of development cooperation
  • to enable young people who wish to become professionally involved in the field of development cooperation to acquire a first practical experience and, consequently, to increase their chances of pursuing a career in the field of cooperation by being able to avail themselves of a practical field experience.

After approximately one month of training at LuxDev headquarters, successful candidates are seconded to the field for 11 months where they work as Junior Technical Adviser (JTA) with an experienced LuxDev staff member. JTA learn about bilateral cooperation and project cycle management, as well as the realities of the partner country. These ATJ positions can be extended for a second and third year.

Access to this programme is limited to young Luxembourgers, or residents of Luxembourg, holding a bachelor's degree, master's degree or higher technical diploma. A prior interest and commitment to development issues and the problems of populations living in developing countries, or studies in this field, are an important advantage.

Candidates interested in this programme can apply via an annual call for applications (April-May) on our recruitment website.
