Final evaluation

The only intervention under the Indicative Cooperation Programme (ICP) 2007-2011 which contributes exclusively and directly to the productive sector, the programme for food security (PROSA) has as its specific objective the strengthening of the rural economical production capacity in order to strengthen the autonomy and solvency of households in the Ségou region and the county of Yorosso in the Sikasso region.

Building on the achievements of project MLI/004 in the Plaine de San Ouest which focused on irrigated agriculture, notably rice production, PROSA enables the development and agricultural promotion of more than 600 ha of lowlands and 20 market gardening perimeters which benefit agricultural producers' associations. In addition, income generation is favoured by supporting conservation, transformation and valorisation initiatives of the agro-sylvo-pastoral production.

In its interventions, it is planned that PROSA in particular takes into account the gender issue by supporting to a large extent women's associations. As in the other interventions of the ICP, the operation's mode chosen enables considerable strengthening of the capacities of the Malian actors and confirming them in the new competences conferred on them in the decentralisation and deconcentration process.
