As part of the Letter of Understanding signed between the Shastin Third State Central Hospital in Mongolia and LuxDev, the Luxembourg Development Cooperation Agency, a specialised training course on pacemaker implantation for Lao health professionals was successfully conducted in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Financed by the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and implemented within the framework of the Health and nutrition programme and the Cardiology, cardio-surgery and telemedicine in Mongolia project, the 45-day intensive training programme strengthened the capacity of Lao cardiologists and nurses through hands-on practice, clinical mentorship and knowledge exchange.
Strengthening cardiac care and regional cooperation

The National Cardiovascular Centre of the Shastin Third State Central Hospital hosted a 45-day intensive training programme from 18 August to 2 October 2025 for six cardiology doctors and nurses from Mahosot Hospital and Mittaphap Hospital in Vientiane Capital, Lao PDR.
The training aimed to strengthen the capacity of Lao medical professionals in the field of specialised cardiac treatment, particularly in pacemaker implantation techniques, and to enhance the quality of cardiac services available in Lao PDR. Through hands-on practice, clinical mentorship and knowledge exchange, participants gained valuable experience to apply within their respective hospitals.
This initiative reflects the commitment of Luxembourg Cooperation and its partners to improving access to the cardiology services in Lao PDR by promoting knowledge sharing, professional exchanges and capacity building. It also highlights the growing cooperation between Mongolia and Lao PDR in the health sector, contributing to better access to specialised care and sustainable improvements in cardiac services.
