Champasak University conducts Outcome-Based Education training
Laos 25.03.2026 Projet
A three-day training workshop on the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) framework, held from 9 to 11 March 2026 at Champasak University’s Faculty of Law and Administration, successfully brought together 41 educators from 6 faculties and the academic office. Organised with the support of the Rule of law, access to justice and good governance (ROLAG) programme, the workshop aimed to strengthen participants' ability to develop effective course syllabi aligned with OBE principles.
Shifting from traditional teaching methods
The event was officially opened by Mr Saly DETHMOUNGKHUN, vice president of the National University of Laos, and Dr Reginald PASTRANA, senior sectoral adviser of the ROLAG programme.
In his remarks, Mr Saly DETHMOUNGKHUN expressed his gratitude to the Luxembourg Development Cooperation and LuxDev for their ongoing support through capacity-building programmes, scholarships, infrastructure projects and initiatives related to the rule of law, access to justice and good governance.
The workshop’s main objective was to promote a holistic approach to designing study programmes based on the OBE ecosystem framework.
Participants learned to develop curricula and course syllabi that are student-centred and outcomes-focused, emphasising a shift from traditional teaching methods towards an ecological systems perspective. This approach places course syllabus development at the heart of the OBE framework, fostering the creation of future-ready educational programmes.
In his closing remarks, vice president DETHMOUNGKHUN highlighted that this workshop represented a foundational step towards achieving long-term goals. Moving forward, the university plans to enhance faculty capabilities through continued OBE training, benchmark excellence by identifying best practices through institutional visits, and monitor progress by establishing performance indicators to evaluate the success of these educational strategies.
