On 13 January 2026, a groundbreaking ceremony marked the start of the construction of a shared building for Kosovo’s health professional chambers in the suburbs of the capital, Pristina. The initiative is supported by Luxembourg Cooperation through the Health support programme in Kosovo – Phase II project, implemented by LuxDev in partnership with the Kosovo Doctors’ Chamber.

Supporting the institutional development of professional medical chambers

The project contributes to strengthening healthcare governance and improving the quality and safety of care by supporting the institutional development of professional medical chambers. Building on earlier support, the project has helped reinforce governance, digitalisation and professional capacities within the chambers and in the General Hospitals of Gjilan and Prizren.

The importance of a shared building for health professional chambers

The construction of joint premises offers a sustainable solution to meet the chambers’ growing operational needs. By consolidating resources, the building will reduce long-term costs, improve energy efficiency, and strengthen collaboration among the chambers.

Luxembourg Cooperation is contributing EUR 1.08 million to the construction, complemented by EUR 150,000 from the professional medical chambers. The works are expected to be completed within 24 months, reinforcing the chambers’ role as key actors in Kosovo’s healthcare system.

About the project

The Health support programme in Kosovo – Phase II is enhancing access to quality healthcare services at the General Hospitals of Prizren and Gjilan, as well as at the Cardiology Clinic at the University Clinical Centre of Kosovo, by modernising and transforming service delivery through innovative approaches and advanced technologies. The project is co-funded by the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and the Republic of Kosovo and is implemented by the Ministry of Health and LuxDev, the Luxembourg Development Cooperation Agency.
