EuroCham takes the lead in shaping Lao PDR’s financial future

On behalf of LuxDev, the Luxembourg Development Cooperation Agency, Mr Robert DE WAHA, Resident Representative of the Asia Office, participated in the first meeting of the Lao Business Forum’s financial sector working group.

The meeting was chaired by Mr Michael DE CLERCQ, Vice President of EuroCham Laos and CEO of the Banque Franco-Lao, alongside Mr Vanthong SITHIKOUN, Vice President of the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Head of the Lao Business Forum Secretariat.

Supported by the European Union in Laos, the gathering brought together over 40 key stakeholders from across the financial landscape, including banks, insurance companies, leasing firms, microfinance institutions, foreign chambers, and financial experts. The objective was to identify and prioritise actions to strengthen Lao PDR’s financial sector.

This dialogue is highly relevant and supports collaboration between the private sector and the government to build a more resilient, inclusive, and forward-looking financial system in Laos.
