Success story: Andrra App, turning everyday needs into digital solutions
Kosovo 17.11.2025 Project
As Kosovo’s digital economy accelerates, home-grown innovators are creating tools that respond directly to local needs. Among them is Andrra App, a women-led healthtech initiative born when its co-founder, Bardha AJVAZI, who was pregnant at the time, needed an app to track her baby’s development that spoke to her, literally and culturally. Supported by Luxembourg Cooperation, the platform is now transforming how Albanian-speaking families access reliable parenting and well-being guidance.
A simple idea
“When I was pregnant, I used several apps to track my baby’s development, but none of them spoke to me, literally or culturally, ” recalls Bardha AJVAZI, co-founder and CEO of Andrra App, a digital health platform now serving over 7,500 active users across Kosovo, Albania and the diaspora.
What began as a simple idea, to provide Albanian-speaking families with an accessible, locally relevant health companion, has grown into a comprehensive digital service that merges multiple tools into one. “We brought together features that women usually manage across three or four apps like cycle tracking, pregnancy monitoring, nutrition, and child development. With Andrra, everything is in one place, in our own language”, Bardha explains.
Innovation through LuxDev supported Grant Scheme
Initially developed by the founders, the app began as a self-driven effort to address a real need within Albanian-speaking communities. As the platform evolved, LuxDev, the Luxembourg Development Agency, through the Innovation Grant Scheme co-funded by the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and implemented with the Ministry of Industry, Entrepreneurship and Trade, supported the modernisation phase — helping integrate advanced AI tools and technical features that elevated the app to a new level of innovation. The scheme continues to empower startups and SMEs in Kosovo to develop solutions that create jobs, boost exports and strengthen the country’s growing innovation ecosystem.
Behind Andrra stands a dynamic, mostly women team of developers, content creators and collaborating health experts. A gynaecologist, psychologist and meditation expert ensure that every piece of content is reviewed before publication. “It’s a sensitive application”, Bardha notes. “Parents rely on our advice, so we take quality and trust very seriously.”
Introducing AI to improve parenting care
The team is now developing an AI-powered premium version to offer personalised guidance — from breastfeeding support to identifying why a baby might be crying. “Through AI we can recommend positions, routines, or even detect early signs of discomfort, ” she says.
It’s about giving families smarter, more empathetic tools.

Beyond technology, Andrra is also reshaping social roles. The app includes features designed for fathers, encouraging shared parenting. “We’ve synchronised both parents’ accounts so they can track the baby’s progress together. It strengthens family bonds and normalises the father’s role in care, ” Bardha emphasises.
Kosovo’s youth-driven tech scene offers fertile ground for such ideas. “We have incredible talent in programming and digitalisation”, she adds. “What we need is more visibility and investment to turn that energy into global success stories.”
As Andrra enters its next phase of growth, they are actively seeking partnerships with clinics, healthcare organisations, subject-matter experts and investors who share their vision. By joining forces, they aim to strengthen their content, expand their services and scale the platform to support even more families across the region and beyond.
Luxembourg's attention to enhance innovation in Kosovo
Kosovo’s innovation and ICT ecosystem has grown rapidly in recent years, generating over EUR 500 million in annual turnover and employing more than 18 thousand professionals across software development, digital services and call centres. Kosovo’s ICT association highlights that exports approach EUR 300 million, primarily to Germany, Switzerland and the United States, making the sector one of the country’s most dynamic engines of growth.
As Kosovo moves closer to adopting its Innovation Strategy 2030+, with LuxDev’s continuous support, stories like Andrra's illustrate the power of home-grown ideas to bridge gaps, inspire others and build a sustainable innovation ecosystem — one app, one opportunity, one bright idea at a time.
