On 17 June 2025, the LuxDev Asia office in Laos proudly hosted a blood donation drive at our regional office in Vientiane, in recognition of World Blood Donor Day (14 June). The event brought together LuxDev colleagues and representatives from the Embassy of Luxembourg, reflecting our shared commitment to supporting the health and well-being of communities in Lao PDR.
A community of heroes
From early morning, colleagues stepped forward to donate blood — some for the first time, others as regular donors — all united by a shared belief: saving lives is a responsibility we all share. We were honored by the presence of Mr. Robert de Waha, resident representative of LuxDev Asia office, and Mr. Thomas Lammar, chargé d'affaires of the Luxembourg Embassy in Laos, whose participation highlighted the importance of this initiative.
A special thanks also goes to Silvia Morgoci, senior sector adviser of the Health and nutrition programme, and her dedicated team, who not only initiated this activity but also showed up in strong numbers to donate.
Giving blood is so much more than giving money or training. It is about empathy and saving lives of people you don’t even know.

From equipment to action
This event builds on a previous milestone in our health cooperation: the donation of the high-tech blood cold chain equipment, valued at approximately EUR 2 million from Luxembourg to strengthen the Lao PDR’s blood transfusion services and ensure a reliable and safe supply of blood products across Laos.
Today, we took the next step — filling those fridges with life-saving blood. It’s a powerful reminder that development is not just about infrastructure and capacity building, but about people coming together to make a difference.
Why it matters
Blood cannot be manufactured — it must be donated. Just one donation can save up to three lives. Whether for accident victims, surgical patients, or mothers in childbirth, your contribution matters. While participation was entirely voluntary, the strong turnout showed just how deeply our team cares.
Thank you to everyone who donated, supported, or simply showed up. Khop chai lai lai to the colleagues from the Red Cross for the friendly and professional handling.
