As Kosovo’s green energy sector expands, so does the need for skilled workers who can install and maintain solar systems. To bridge this gap, the project Skills for sustainable jobs, funded by the government of Luxembourg and implemented by LuxDev, has partnered with ELING / Solarit Academy to deliver short, hands-on courses in solar photovoltaic installation.

Why this is important

The goal is simple: to help Kosovars — especially young people and women — gain job-ready skills for a market that is growing fast but which lacks qualified technicians. Together with Solarit, the project co-designs a modular, competency-based curriculum that combines classroom instruction with real practice on live systems, mentoring, and job-matching support.

Our short-term courses are designed for people who don’t have the time or opportunity to follow long theoretical programmes. We have engaged experienced trainers and developed a compact course that covers all the essential aspects of solar installation. By the end, participants are ready to work as solar technicians.

Most participants are young and very motivated to enter the labour market. The training follows international standards, not just local ones, and provides a great entry point for anyone who wants to start a career in the solar energy sector.

Short courses draw great interest

The first cohort of 25 participants completed the training earlier this year, though interest was three times higher.

Over the next three months, the goal is to train up to 300 participants through additional cohorts, thereby scaling up access and employability outcomes.

At university, we mostly learn theory. This training gave me practical experience that will help me start working in the field and finish my studies with more confidence.

This partnership with Solarit is part of a wider effort under the project, which supports vocational training in emerging sectors.

In parallel, the project Skills for sustainable jobs in Kosovo collaborates with three other training providers to offer short courses in ICT, food processing, and wood processing, helping to broaden opportunities for employment and sustainable growth across Kosovo.

About the project

The Skills for sustainable jobs in Kosovo project is funded by the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and implemented by the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, and by LuxDev, the Luxembourg Development Cooperation Agency. The project aims to contribute to sustainable economic growth by supporting innovation, inclusiveness, and social development in a greener Kosovo.
